The 2020 J Awards winners have been revealed, shining on a spotlight on some of the best local music of the past year.
Taking out the triple j Australian Album of the Year gong is Lime Cordiale with 14 Steps To A Better You, which triple j Music Director Nick Findlay said cements them as “as some of the country’s most unique songwriters”.
“2020 will be remembered for a lot of dark moments, but one bright shining light that’s cut through has been the sophomore album from Sydney brothers Lime Cordiale,” Findlay said.
“Lime Cordiale know how to write an earworm, and with an album that already had four Hottest 100 hits under its belt before release, there was no doubt that we were going to be met with another wave of listener favourites on this record.”
Archie Roach’s Tell Me Why has been awarded the Double J Australian Artist of the Year, while Gudjinburra man of the Bundjalung nation JK-47 is named Unearthed Artist of the Year following the release of debut album, Made For This.
Australian Music Video of the Year goes to Tasman Keith’s Billy Bad Again, directed by Joey Hunter, and the Done Good Award was claimed by Instagram live-streamed music festival Isol-Aid.
