“I am so honoured.”

It’s no surprise that Tones & I is up for a slew of gongs at this year’s APRA Music Awards, picking up four nods for global sensation Dance Monkey.

The Byron Bay-based artist is up for Most Performed Australian Work, Most Performed Pop Work, Peer-Voted APRA Song of the Year and Breakthrough Songwriter of the Year at the 2020 APRAs, which will this year be live-streamed on May 26.

“I am so honoured to receive four APRA nominations,” Tones & I told The Music. “Big thank you to APRA for all the work they do for the music community. Stay safe.”

The Teskey Brothers are also vying for the coveted Breakthrough Songwriter of the Year and Song of the Year awards, the latter of which for I Get Up, which also finds itself in the Most Performed Blues & Roots category.

Anthemic single Choir see Guy Sebastian also up for three awards (Song of the Year, Most Performed Australian Work and Most Performed Pop Work), while Thelma Plum, Hilltop Hoods, Birds Of Tokyo, Dean Lewis and more have also been nominated for APRAs.

“If ever there was a time to acknowledge the work of songwriters – both those on stage and those who work quietly behind-the-scenes – it is now, which is why we have committed to the 2020 Virtual APRA Music Awards,” APRA AMCOS Chief Executive Dean Ormston said.

“Our songwriters give us so much - they contribute enormously to our economic and cultural wealth, and in a world of self-isolation, never has the comfort, poignancy, or uplift of a song been more important!

“The nominees provide a ready-made #AussieMade playlist of fantastic music. We look forward to celebrating their success, as part of our support of all Australian music creators.”
