Zan Rowe has shared a memory-filled post on social media as she makes her exit from broadcasting on Double J this Friday (12 December).
Listeners don’t have much to fear, however, as Rowe’s long-running music podcast, Take 5, will remain on Double J – and air its fifth season on ABC. And, fans who want to see more of Rowe on TV can catch her hosting the reboot of ABC’s Race Around The World.
This Friday, Rowe will farewell devoted listeners and her two-decade-plus career on the J’s with a massive two-hour DESKO and broadcast her final Friday Mornings show. Commemorating her incredible career on the radio, Rowe began: “This Friday I’m hanging up the headphones after almost 21 years of broadcasting with the J family.
“The last two decades aren’t just a highlight of my career, they have BEEN my career. My first full time job, given the green light to host Weekend Lunch, and embark on an incredible adventure with listeners, co-workers, and musicians across the world.”
She continued, “I was the custodian of the Mornings show for 12 years. It was where Take 5 was born, where Dr Karl and I forged a very fun camaraderie, and where best of all I got to spend time with an incredible national audience every weekday morning.
“I graduated to Double J, bringing Take 5 with me and a few likeminded audience mates as well. But I also found a new audience who loved to stretch out with deep conversations about music and life. And you REALLY loved ripping the lid off it with DESKO every Friday.”

Looking back on her treasured radio memories, Rowe said she was “incredibly lucky” to share music stories with listeners over the years.
She added that she still loves radio, and will miss the “electric feeling” of being in the present and sharing a moment with listeners.
Rowe concluded, “In 2026, I step into a new chapter. Making a new TV series of Take 5 for @abciview. Making new episodes of the Take 5 podcast for @doublejradio. And exploring totally new things, as Host of the reboot of Race Around the World for @abciview.
“So as I say goodbye this Friday on Double J with a huge 2 hour DESKO, I hope you can join me. And flick through this carousel, year by year, a tiny capture of a big era I’ve been so fortunate to experience.
“Little Zan in 2005 would never imagine the adventures that lay in front of her. I am so incredibly grateful for all of them. Thank you.”
