On Wednesday (4 December), Zan Rowe announced that her music segment on ABC News Breakfast would be coming to an end.
Rowe has brought music news and analysis to ABC News Breakfast for a decade, but in 2025, she’s looking to a new “land of opportunity.”
“As just announced on News Breakfast, I’m going to be winding up my weekly music news segment,” Rowe told followers on social media this week. “Next week will be my final week. I’ve been doing it for ten years! What is time?”
She continued, “It’s an idea that I pitched a decade ago. I’ve had such a good time doing it both in Sydney, remotely, and then on the couch in Melbourne when I moved back home.
“It’s just been amazing to bring music news but also music analysis, and discussions around what’s happening with artists these days who are having the hardest time, I think, in my living memory. It’s been a real pleasure and privilege to do that.”
Ending her announcement on a positive note, Rowe concluded, “Take away one thing, and you can make space for other things, right? 2025, the land of opportunity.”

Responding to concerned fans, Rowe wrote in the comments, “Hey legends, this was my call. Ever changed things up after a decade? It happens! Nothing else going on. Change is good (in fact, inevitable).”
Rowe also stated, “That’s the plan,” when asked if someone else would be carrying the torch for music news on ABC News Breakfast.

Last month, Rowe and her co-host of the Bang On podcast, Myf Warhurst, announced that the program would be going on hiatus after running since 2017 and going on a huge national tour this year.
In October, season three of Rowe’s successful music program, Take 5 With Zan Rowe, aired on ABC.
Based on her Double J podcast, Take 5, the television version follows the same format: a star sits down with Rowe and chooses five songs related to a theme of her choosing.
The latest season hosted Dannii Minogue, Bill Bailey, Claudia Karvan, Neil Finn, Bernard Fanning, and Casey Donovan.
Zan Rowe fans will see her on our screens on New Year’s Eve (Tuesday, 31 December) as she co-hosts ABC’s countdown to midnight alongside Charlie Pickering and Concetta Caristo.
