After nearly three years as the Managing Director of Ticketek Australia, Phil King departed on Friday (4 September) to pursue a new role in New Zealand. He confirmed the news on LinkedIn.
In December 2023, King was named General Manager of Ticketek Australia. Before joining the Australian ticketing giant, he was Chief Commercial Officer of the South Australian Cricket Association (SACA).
Other experience for King includes serving in executive positions for multiple entertainment venues, such as the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, the International Convention Centre – also known as ICC Sydney, while the theatre portion was recently named the TikTok Entertainment Centre – and Sydney’s Afterpay Arena (formerly known as Qudos Bank Arena).
Describing the tenure at Ticketek as an “incredible chapter” of his career, King said that leading the company was “one of the true joys of my professional life,” one that’s challenged, shaped, and provided growth to his capabilities.
“None of this would have been possible without the exceptional team I’ve had the privilege to work alongside every day,” he wrote. “To the entire Ticketek team, thank you for your relentless dedication, passion, and resilience. You are the best people in the business!”
King continued, “I want to extend my sincere gratitude to Cameron Hoy (CEO, TEG) and Geoff Jones (Chairman, TEG) for their unwavering support, trust, and guidance throughout my time in the role.
“I consider myself extremely lucky to have had the opportunity to work with them both so closely, they are true legends of our industry!”
King added that he’s “genuinely excited” to watch Ticketek continue its upward momentum, following the recent appointment of Amy Mackie to Managing Director of Ticketing at TEG, the parent company of Ticketek.
“Ticketek is one of Australia’s true success stories,” he continued. “Over 47 years, its Australian-owned and operated model has underpinned incredible growth, supporting the live entertainment ecosystem across the region. It is a milestone legacy that deserves to be celebrated.
“Thank you to everyone, our team, partners, venues, and industry colleagues, who made this journey so rewarding.”
Concluding his post by looking forward, King said his next role is becoming the CEO at Dunedin Venues in New Zealand.
“I’m now looking forward to my next challenge across the Tasman as I step into the role of Chief Executive Officer at Dunedin Venues,” he wrote.
