More than three years after it reopened its doors, it remains unclear whether Sydney venue The Lady Hampshire will continue as a live music space into the future.
On October 9th, the Parramatta Road venue in Camperdown announced it would be "closed all weekend" and it assessed and attempted to repair the damage left by Sydney storms.
However, no updates have arrived since – either via The Lady Hampshire's socials or official website – and online searches for the location return a property listing by Colliers wherein the freehold and operating business was listed for sale on behalf of FTI as receivers and managers.
That listing describes the property as having been sold, with a transaction date of September 10th, a week after expressions of interest closed.
While numerous planned shows were moved in the wake of the venue's storm-related closure, a post by Sydney's Manhole detailing that their planned December 5th date at The Lady Hampshire had moved to the Bowlo Leichhardt was also accompanied by word that the venue had "closed down indefinitely".
"It’s a shame to see another venue having to shut, and especially because it’s our closest local to the manhole studios," they shared on social media.
Currently, only one event is listed via the venue's 'What's On' page, with a Back To Funk Spring BBQ Sessions afternoon scheduled for November 21st. However, since the event itself offers free entry, it may have simply been neglected in terms of its removal.
First opened in 1911, The Lady Hampshire was opened in its current form in 2023, having previously been bought by PUBLIC Hospitality Group in March of 2021 before closing for renovations the following year.
Since then, it's served as a live music venue, hosting names such as These New South Whales, Bugs, Fangz, and many more.
