Trailblazing since its inception in 1977, Perth (Boorloo)’s primary independent community radio station, RTRFM, has announced a brand-new online venture – RTR2.
Launching today, the digital platform will provide on-demand listening, with content ranging from new mixes to live sets to archival recordings from the RTRFM vaults.
Helmed by a rotating panel of guest residents, RTR2 aims to foster a new connection point for local Western Australian artists, music lovers, and cultural contributors.
RTRFM’s General Manager, Simon Miraudo, says the online-only alternative offers listeners the chance to explore “the weird and wonderful facets of RTRFM’s music programming”, with the focus remaining on the local perspective.
With the online program running synchronously with the station’s FM and DAB+ bands, the platform offers the chance to get intimate with “the record collection of your favourite artist, your most clued-in neighbour, or your local DJ”.
The launch of RTR2 comes a month after the station rejigged its website, making accessing online audio streams all the more seamless.

The RTR2 platform will feature six rotating residents anchoring the program grid every two months, with the first line-up already announced.
September and October will see curation from artists such as: dance music label ONO Records; First Nations DJ collective Lubly Dae; exploratory music purveyors Tone List; Queer dance music collective Double Happiness; experimental R&B band SUPEREGO; and esoteric electronica promoter tripl0cate.
RTR2 can be streamed globally 24/7 via the station’s website, rtrfm.com.au, with new residency episodes being released every Monday at 10 AM WST.
