“It’s really about those years in high school and that feeling of just being foolish, spending time with your mates and trying things for the first time,” Gray explains.

He’s been a force in the world of pop music for close to a decade now, but now Jack Gray is entering his new era with a fresh signing and a brand new single.

Having debuted back in 2017, Gray has been rising through the ranks in recent years, touring the UK and the US market, supporting names like Tate McRae and Matt Corby, having his tracks picked up by K-pop acts, and finding a massive fanbase at every turn.

Born in Mackay, but based in Los Angeles, Gray’s been traversing the world alongside a raft of singles and EPs. Now, Gray is the latest signing to Island Records Australia, and he’s celebrating with the release of his latest single, Dumb Sh*t.

Described as something of a laidback ode to restless youth, the track was produced by Gray and co-written with Jon Hume and Jillian Shea.

“It’s really about those years in high school and that feeling of just being foolish, spending time with your mates and trying things for the first time,” he explains. “Feeling like you can do anything and just blame it on being young, or young at heart.”

The track also comes paired with a fresh music video, crafted in Los Angeles with close friends Bryce Gheisar and co-director Jem Matthews, with Miles Murphy sitting in as director of photography.

Ostensibly, Dumb Sh*t arrives as a taster of Gray’s forthcoming debut album, though he’s currently leaving all of the details a secret for now. He confirms that he’s co-written, performed, and produced nearly every part of the record himself (finding the time to compose a film score in the midst of it all), but we’ll have to wait for further details on the LP.

Gray is also performing a secret Sydney show this evening (July 17th), having been offering tickets via his Instagram account. However, for those who missed out, Gray is set to hit up Aussie stages again next month when he supports Daniel Seavey on his recently-postponed Australian tour. Tickets to those shows are on sale now.
