It was an impressive night at the Gold Coast Music Awards last night (29 August), with the star-studded event seeing artists of all genres taking home huge awards.
Held at HOTA (Home Of The Arts), the Gold Coast Music Awards have become the area’s premier music event. Now in its tenth year, the awards celebrate the Artist of the Year, Breakout Artist of the Year, Live Act of the Year, Studio Producer of the Year, Song of the Year, and more categories as long as music was released between 1 April 2023, and 31 March 2024.
At this year’s awards, country singer Chloe Styler was crowned Breakout Artist of the Year after releasing a string of successful singles, including Time Bomb, Twenty Five, and Hometownless in the last year. The Artist of the Year and Release of the Year categories share the same winner, Hollow Coves, the independent folk duo making a comeback with the album Nothing To Lose.
Rapper, musician and activist JK-47 took home the coveted Song of the Year with his song, Lullaby, beating Styler and Hollow Coves amongst a remarkable list of finalists. Meanwhile, renowned folk meets country meets blues act Hussy Hicks were named Live Act of the Year, and Lyric took home the People’s Choice Award. You can check out the complete list of award winners below.
Samantha Morris and Chloe Popa, co-founders of the Gold Coast Music Awards, each shared a statement about the big night.

“For ten years, we’ve been shining a light on the depth and diversity of talent here, and it only gets harder. The quality of nominations coming out of the Gold Coast this year was incredible,” Morris said. “This pool of finalists really encapsulates the best of the best in a city full of rising stars and exceptional talent.”
Popa added, “Every artist acknowledged as a finalist today could easily win their category – that’s the standard we’re dealing with. For a regional city, we’ve always punched above our weight, and it’s certainly no different when it comes to local, original music.
“If people aren’t already paying attention to what’s happening in this city when it comes to music, they will be after this year’s Awards.”
