Tame Impala ProfileThe biggest night in Australian music is back for another year, with the nominations arriving for the 2026 ARIA Awards.
The 40th anniversary of the annual celebration of local music is shaping to be a special affair, and a massive contest between some of the country's most beloved artists, with both Genesis Owusu and Tame Impala leading the charge with eight nominations apiece.
While Owusu's third album, REDSTAR WU & THE WORLDWIDE SCOURGE, has received nods in the categories of Album of the Year, Best Solo Artist, Best Independent Release, Best Alternative Release, Best Australian Live Act, Best Video, Best Cover Art, and Producer – Best Produced Release, so too does Tame Impala share some of the same space.
While Kevin Parker's perennial project stills rides high off the back of his Deadbeat album and the enduring success of his Dracula single, Tame Impala are up for Album of the Year, Best Solo Artist, Best Pop Release, Best Dance/Electronic Release, Best Alternative Release, Song of the Year, Best Engineered Release, and Best Produced Release.
Meanwhile, Ecca Vandal nabs seven nods off the back of her acclaimed album LOOKING FOR PEOPLE TO UNFOLLOW, while Baker Boy, BOY SODA, G Flip, Miss Kaninna, and Ninajirachi score five nominations, and DMA'S, Dom Dolla, and Troye Sivan each receive four nominations.
Album Of The Year is a tightly-contested award, with Tame Impala, Owusu, and Ecca Vandal joined by DMA'S and Boy Soda, while DMA'S join 5 Seconds Of Summer, Gang Of Youths, Teen Jesus And The Jean Teasers, and recently-inducted ARIA Hall Of Famers Vika & Linda.
Ecca Vandal is also amongst aleksiah, Rachael Fahim, Way Dynamic, and WILSN in the Michael Gudinski Breakthrough Artist Award, while Song Of The Year is on track to be a very tight race. A publicly-voted award, ten tracks are up for the honour, including cuts by Sonny Fodera, Keli Holiday, FISHER, Ocean Alley, Vance Joy, and G Flip.
29 categories will ultimately be celebrated on Wednesday, November 18th at Sydney's Hordern Pavilion. One of these – Best Alternative Release – makes an impressive return for the first time since 2016. Alongside Tame Impala, Owusu, and Ecca Vandal, Gang Of Youths and Meg Mac also round out that category.
