More Sounds Australia More Sounds Australia

A few weeks after former Sounds Australia Executive Producer Millie Millgate was appointed the inaugural Director of Music Australia, the former has named the person taking over her old role: Esti Zilber.

Since joining Sounds Australia in 2010, Zilber has worked closely with Millgate for over ten years, developing the organisation’s programs at home and abroad.

Zilber managed Sounds Australia’s Export Stimulus Program in 2021 and 2022, which ensured over 320 people received $1.2 million distributed across three rounds to assist Australian artists, crew and music professionals who faced little to no work for over 18 months.

Zilber will begin her role as Executive Producer on Monday, 20 November.

“It’s a privilege to follow in Millie’s footsteps, building on the pathways she has forged to deliver international success for many of our industry’s most recognisable exports,” Zilber said in a statement. “I look forward to embracing this next chapter in my career and leading the Sounds Australia team as we brace ourselves for the new frontiers in promoting Australia’s music globally.”

Zilber continued, “I am so proud of the incredible talent this country produces and am excited to be stepping up to ensure their stories continue to be amplified on the world’s stages and receive the commercial outcomes and accolades they so greatly deserve.”

Millgate added, “Esti has been such an integral part of the growth of Sounds Australia over the last 13 years, and I’m truly excited for the future of the program, knowing what a compassionate and formidable leader she will be. Sounds Australia is in extremely safe hands.”

Millie Millgate was named the inaugural Director of Music Australia in October. The program was launched in January 2023 by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese under the Australian Government initiative of the National Cultural Policy: Revive, a place for every story, a story for every place.

As Director of Music Australia, Millgate will aim to lead impactful change in “investment, policy, and artistic development to fuel the growth of the Australian contemporary music industry,” per a press release.
