Chris CheneyBMG has acquired the publishing catalogue of The Living End frontman Chris Cheney, expanding its roster with one of Australia’s most successful rock musicians.
With the acquisition of Cheney’s catalogue, BMG continues to nurture its relationship with The Living End, having been the singer and guitarist’s publisher since 2016 and the band’s global label home since 2018.
The deal arrives less than a week after The Living End were inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame during a Special Ceremony, in which they were inducted alongside fellow rockers Spiderbait, pioneering singers Gurrumul, Kate Ceberano, and Jenny Morris, plus harmonising sisters Vika & Linda.
Since their induction, The Living End’s latest album, I Only Trust Rock ‘n’ Roll, re-entered the ARIA Charts this week as the #3 Australian album.
In a statement, Cheney said he’s “thankful and very honoured” to have secured a deal with BMG, who “share the same passion and enthusiasm” for music, The Living End and his solo catalogue, as he does.

“One of the great joys of being a musician is songwriting,” Cheney began. “The magical feeling you get from the process of creating something from nothing! Songs can take weeks to write, or they can appear in minutes seemingly out of nowhere. They are the most wonderful, mysterious, powerful things!
He continued, “The Living End have always had an incredibly strong connection with our audience around the world through our catalogue of songs. I’m thankful and very honoured to have done this deal with BMG, who I know share the same passion and enthusiasm for music and for this catalogue.”
Heath Johns, President of BMG for Australia, New Zealand and Southeast Asia, added, “The Living End has been the soundtrack to countless Australian stories and memories while the band has simultaneously achieved cult status internationally as one of the best live rock bands of all time.
“As The Living End enter the ARIA Hall of Fame, we are incredibly honoured that Chris has chosen BMG as his forever home for these iconic publishing rights, and we look forward to finding new opportunities for them at home and abroad.”
The Living End are one of Australia’s most influential rock bands, inspiring musicians across the globe with their ferocity and technical abilities.
They’ve been nominated for a whopping 29 ARIA Awards, taking home five coveted wins: Highest Selling Single for Second Solution / Prisoner of Society (1998), Breakthrough Artist and Best Group (1999), Best Rock Album for White Noise (2008), and Best Rock Album for The Ending Is Just the Beginning Repeating (2011).
The band have toured alongside AC/DC, The Rolling Stones, The Offspring, and Green Day, and has made a splash on UK and US charts, in addition to their success in Australia. At home, The Living End’s impact has been recognised with six ARIA Awards, APRA’s prestigious Song of the Year award, and, most recently, their induction into the ARIA Hall of Fame.
