"Through our friendship with Stay Gold and our ability to reach a crowd, we started doing these fundraiser shows to not only raise money for a great charity but to raise mental health awareness in our scene. We both suffer from mental health issues that fluctuate day to day. Through these shows, we feel we can connect with people facing similar issues and help them not feel alone. Our "scene" is full of stories about people who didn't survive. We want to change that." - Jason Mack

If you don’t know about What We Did On The Weekend, allow me to explain. It’s two guys, Jason Mack (Jase/Dawg) & Mathew Burgess (Burgo) who met in line at Unify & became mates. Seems simple enough, right?

Well 3 years down the line they are an international podcast featuring all your fave heavy bands. They’re booked out months in advance & have the most honest, candid and hilarious chats. They are a booking agency & gig promoters who are single-handedly responsible for reviving live music in Melbourne in 2020. They have dabbled in distribution, releasing physical music after arranging covers with bands Australia wide in collaboration with Anti Vinyl Vinyl Club. They are merchandisers responsible for warming everyone with their sell-out embroidered premium goods (& so much more!) every year. They are meme kings & pioneers of a good laff online, making friends everywhere they go! And last but absolutely very not least, they are advocates for mental health and every year arrange a fundraiser for Beyond Blue which is what I’m here to chat about today.

This weekend, Stay Gold in Melbourne will host the 3rd annual WWDOTW x Beyond Blue fundraiser. Aiming to raise $10,000 to assist in mental health services in Australia.

There are two main events throughout the day with plenty of opportunities to dig deeply scattered throughout the day. First up with be the DAY PARTY! Acoustic sets will be performed by Agnes Manners, The Brilliant Dance, Excuse for an Exit, Jarrod Joske Music & Lack. Jad Tattooer & TKO Tattoos will be there doing flash designs. There will be art pieces for purchase by Naughty Boy & raffles with HEAPS of prizes including test presses!

It kicks off at 12PM! Gold coin (or more!!) donation for entry. RSVP to the Facebook event HERE!

Next up will be the big gig! On the verge of selling out, the event will be headlined by Brisbane hardcore outfit Deadlights. Supporting is Bloom all the way from Sydney, Rumours, Clay J Cladstone & lastly, playing their debut show, Ghostseeker. Every single one of these bands is donating their time & it is going to be ridiculously great. It’s been a long time coming for this mammoth gig which was originally scheduled for last November. Now that we are all vaxxed up and ready to go, nothing is going to get in the way of this day & night meeting that $10,000 goal post. The event is completely non-profit, every cent will go to Beyond Blue.

Doors are at 7PM, tickets are ALMOST GONE! RSVP to the Facebook event HERE!

Ahead of this monumental day, we had a chat with both Deadlights & Bloom for their thoughts on mental health, their band's involvement & why they want you to get involved & donate.
