After a huge year that’s saw him winning two Queensland Music Awards, added across a range of high profile playlists, playing the likes of Gold Coast's SPRINGTIME Festival, Yours and Owls Festival and SXSW Sydney, Yb. isn’t quite done with 2023 yet as he follows up brand new mixtape BULLETPROOF with a video for lead single, TELL ME WHAT THE COST IS.
A fan fave that saw triple J rotation, TELL ME WHAT THE COST IS sees Yb. injecting a bit of electro-pop into his indie stylings, resulting in a driving, addictive & energetic cut. Meanwhile, the video features Yb. performing in a warehouse/garage type-space, coupled with some trippy, psychedelic editing.
Speaking on the video, Yb. explains "The ‘TELL ME WHAT THE COST IS’ visualiser was an idea directed by Izak Wood and assisted by Will Collins; both past Griffith film students I met through my partner. We wanted to create a super energetic and fun video with a pretty tight budget, so Izak had the idea of filming the dynamic video in his brother's cool garage. We worked on almost all of the visuals for my previous ‘Blackphemy’ EP together so when it came to the creation of this video we sort of wanted to see where the night took us. We bounce off each other so well so it’s an absolute breeze to work whenever I work with them. We played with a lot of angles and different lighting fixtures on the day so we had a lot to work with. The rest is genuinely just Izak’s magic touch."
