Phil Jamieson announced his forthcoming solo album, 10Charlie, and unveiled the first single, Weekends, last week. And today, The Music is sharing an exclusive video premiere for Weekends.

A heart-wrenching pop-rock song that captures the spirit of movement, travelling across regional Australia, and visiting local pubs, Weekends pulls at heartstrings with its synthesisers and keyboards.

In the video, Jamieson embodies the uneasiness of the lyrics: a man exploring the country on his own, struggling to eat, drink, and sleep. With dark blue and red tones, along with muted colours, the Grinspoon frontman explores anxiety and solitude in nature and familiar locations, such as a pub and a clay tennis court. But, it’s not all darkness.

“Weekends. It’s a destination. It’s a place among the tall pines. It’s a restaurant / bar / coffee shop / diner. You can go to Weekends on a Monday. It’s a place to agree or disagree,” Jamieson explained in a statement. “The song is built around intimacy and hope. And it has some fun guitars.”

You can watch the music video below.

Jamieson’s new album, 10Charlie, will be released on Friday, 14 August.

10Charlie has been described as Jamieson’s most “personal and direct” solo album. Working with producer Oscar Dawson (Holy Holy, Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers) and securing collaborations with Davey Lane, Rob Muinos, Ben Edgar and Soph Ozard, the album explores his introspective and furious sides in equal measure.

“This album is much more personal than my first record. In times of intense turbulence, I’ve written what I’ve needed to hear,” Jamieson said. “It’s a balm for my soul. 10Charlie is a boarding pass. You are not in the exit row; your luggage can be stored under the seat in front of you. Please follow all cabin crew directions and fasten your seat belt for take-off.”

You can pre-order/pre-save the album here.

To celebrate his forthcoming album, Jamieson is embarking on a massive, 40-date run across the country. From Thursday, 11 June, to Saturday, 12 September, the PJ AIR national tour will touch down in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania, Western Australia and the Northern Territory. Tickets are available here.
