"...I guess that's the feeling I am trying to emulate with 'I Got The Lonely.'"
New Zealand singer songwriter Mel Persons returned last month with a brand new single off her upcoming album. Today she is back with a video for the single and it is premiering exclusively on theMusic.com.au.
I Got The Lonely reportedly marks a new chapter in Parsons' musical career working with celebrated producer Mitchell Froom of Crowded House, Elvis Costello, Missy Higgins and Lindsay Buckingham/Christine McVie fame.
The song itself was inspired by the passing of Tom Petty, who Parsons was listening to a lot of at the time.
"The actual song has nothing to do with him really, but I guess it was inspired by him in some unconscious sense," she said.
"He had just passed away and I was going back through his catalogue and was blown away all over again. Something in his songwriting hits me in a very emotional way, and I guess that's the feeling I am trying to emulate with I Got The Lonely."
