For fans of Finnish rockers The Rasmus, an Australian tour has been an incredibly long time coming.
First forming in 1994 when the members were right in the middle of their school, fame found the group early, with 1996’s debut album Peep going Bold when the musicians were just 16 years old.
In 2003, however, the band's influence spread outside of Finland with the release of their fifth album, Dead Letters. Lead single In The Shadows became a huge hit on Australian rock radio, ultimately reaching No. 23 on the national charts, and inspiring calls for the group to make the trek to Australia.
Unfortunately, such a visit never took place, and in fact, fans would have to wait until 2025 for the band to announce such a trip.
Announced last year to coincide with the September release of their 11th album, Weirdo, The Rasmus will be hitting up local stages later this month, performing headline dates in Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne.
While tickets to those shows are on sale now, The Rasmus vocalist Lauri Ylönen spoke to The Music ahead of the tour to reflect on the myriad things he knows about Australia and is keen to experience while on local shores.
The Ten Things The Rasmus’ Lauri Ylönen Knows About Australia That He Is Keen To Experience
1. Three Sisters
I like to go hiking and this mountain formation sounds like a good destination. Nature is one of the most inspiring things for my music.
2. Sydney Opera House
Architecture is my great passion alongside of music. This legendary building sparked my inspiration already when I was a kid.
3. Bindi Irwin
Fanboy meet and greet with her, please!
4. Seal Rocks, New South Wales
This place was recommended by our bass player who used to live in Australia for a few years. Why not write a song on a beach one day?
5. AC/DC Concert
Last time I saw them I had my 18th birthday and I got so drunk I passed out middle of the show.
6. Surry Hills Thrift Shops
Shopping for vintage clothes feels good. I used to do that a lot as a teenager. Recently a lot more again.
7. Hay St Market At Paddy's
Let's have lunch here.
8. Scuba Diving At Great Barrier Reef
I started scuba diving about twenty years ago. This one I haven't witnessed yet.
9. Koala Tour In Queensland
Aaaaaaw...
10. Uluru
I'm sure it's as breath taking as they say.
