You Am I frontman Tim Rogers is considering a remarkable run for the papacy, after the position was left vacant by Pope Benedict XVI earlier today.
According to sources close to the singer and guitarist, Rogers has long had ambitions for the Pope job but never thought the opportunity would arise.
“The whole thing has taken him by surprise,” the source said, “but Tim knows that if he reacts quick enough he might be able to win over key voting blocs.”
Although Rogers hasn't been actively electioneering for the role, he was spotted emerging from Melbourne venue The Tote at 4am on Wednesday morning with two unidentified cardinals.

It is believed that he has already sounded out a number of high-ranking Vatican officials about relaxing the rules usually enforced on who can be Pope. The source believes Rogers is close to getting exceptions in the fields of religion, rank and previous work with the church and will announce his campaign as soon as they are confirmed.
“It will be a remarkable day for Australia if he can pull it off,” the source said, “and he's starting a perfectly under-the-radar approach.”
If successful he will likely take on the moniker Pope Rogers I and rename the throne the Berlin Chair.
