Marigolden (real name Mel O'Neill) shares her new single, Just Like Smoke, today, premiering with The Music.
"When I wrote this song I was struggling a lot with comparing myself to other people. Accomplishments, looks, capacity... I was heavily working through some trauma at the time, and felt deeply defeated most days," O'Neill told The Music.
"This song came out as a sort of ode to that process: a reminder to myself that it’s okay to feel that way, but I don’t want to be confined by it. Where I am right now is where I’m meant to be.
"Each person lives their share of ups and downs. I have the strength of many women before me running in my blood, helping me live through mine. I live in a socially privileged body and with that and the strength of those women with me, I want to do my part in changing this world for the better."
The track follows up Marigolden's debut single, Taking It Back, which the Tasmanian-born, Melbourne-based artist released last year.
