Shoegazey New Zealand trio Bespin have made a solid impact in their first few years, and they're all set to solidify their international stature next month when they hit Australian shores to take part in this year's BIGSOUND Festival.

Before they do, though, they've unveiled their sublimely mesmerising new single, East Of Her, and we at The Music are stoked to be giving it a premiere run ahead of their trip.

Featuring expansive, ethereal psych-dappled soundscapes and an ambling ambience that washes over the listener with its hypnotic, inviting grooves, East Of Her marks a standout moment in the band's growing catalogue, the contents of which have been drawing acclaim since their 2015 debut EP, Osiris.

According to songwriter Jonathon Lee (known for his work with Cut Off Your Hands), East Of Her was one of those tracks that came to life with surprising ease, and that organic growth carries across to the finished product, the song feeling effortless in all the right ways without ever coming across as uninspired.

"East Of Her is a dark seance to me," Lee explained in a statement. "I found the guitar line one night, and the rest just fell around it almost immediately. I knew how I wanted it to sound — and how the song itself went — much faster than my norm. It's a special song to me, playing on those themes of distance and time and memory. It's exciting to finally release it into the wild."

Bespin will be performing three shows during BIGSOUND: one on Wednesday 6 September at The Zoo (8pm), and two on 7 September — the first at Sonny's NZ Party (8pm) before booking it across to another showcase spot at The Brightside at 9.50pm. So, if you're headed along, be sure to set aside some time to soak in their luscious tunes while you're at it.
