What's the song about?
The song is about who you are, who you want to be, and whether you can break through the binds you create in order to liberate yourself.

Is this track from a forthcoming/existing release?
Yes indeed, Fighting Kind is the first single from my forthcoming debut album, You Go Your Way, I'll Go Mine, which was co-written with my guitarist Lawrence Folvig. This album marks the first collaboration I have ever done in the songwriting process; I quite enjoyed myself, I hope Lawrence did too. The record will be released September 2012.

How long did it take to write/record?
The whole record took about two years and over that time Lawrence and I came up with 11 songs all together. Fighting Kind was one of the most recent songs we've written together.

What was inspiring you during the song's writing and recording?
Other than the almost daily almond croissant and coffee trips, the most exciting thing about making the music was being able to bounce ideas back and forth between Lawrence and myself. We were also fortunate enough to track the bare bones of each song at a beach house in Blairgowrie during the winter with the rest of my band and Jono Steer, who helped co-produce the album.

We'll like this song if we like…
Seventies-inspired folk rock, Joan As Police Woman, Feist, Radiohead.

Do you play it differently live?
Yes and no, it varies each show depending on our surroundings. We recorded a version in the stairwell of my house and that version is stripped right back. You can see the results of it on YouTube.

Will you be launching it?
We will be launching Fighting Kind on 12 May at the Workers Club with special guests Gold Bloom, who are making the trip from Adelaide, and Melbournite Lisa Salvo. I am so excited to have these guys along! Tickets on sale through Moshtix now.
