We've already told you about our Purple Sneakers Approved list for SPLENDOUR IN THE GRASS 2016, so why not let us tell you about some of the artists we're oh so excited have chosen to extend their music onto us even more, with additional sideshows.
For the unlucky ones out there who didn't manage to grab their hands on a Splendour in the Grass ticket this year, this one's for you! Whilst you won't find the likes of The Avalanches, Flume or our old friend NGAIIRE on the list below (they're playing exclusive to SITG), we have got a solid display of artists we think you should check out!
JAMES BLAKE
Yes, we're starting off with international phenomena James Blake. But hey, why not? The English legend became first well-known to the world through his Self Titled album in 2011 and has since risen up the charts through his soulful vocals and electro-pop style pieces. Considering the last time he hit up Australia (back in 2013) for Splendour all his sideshows sold out, i'd say it's safe to say he's one not to miss! He's also just released his third album, The Colour in Anything and it's brilliantly emotive.
Tour dates:
- Tuesday 26 July - Hordern Pavilion, Sydney
- Wednesday 27 July - Margaret Court Arena, Melbourne
- Thursday 28 July - Thebarton Theatre, Adelaide
- Saturday 30 July - HBF Stadium, Perth
THE 1975
The English alt-rock band are drool worthy first of all, but their catchy tunes and stage presence is something else. Previously topping the UK albums chart in 2013, the band recently did it for a second time with the release of their second album, I like it when you sleep, for you are so beautiful yet so unaware of it. The 1975 have pretty much been taking the world by storm for a while now. They're a beautiful little package of continuous musical genres all put into one with a touch of the 60's, 70's and 80's. So if you're up for a dance, some killer eye candy and nostalgia, definitely check out one of their sideshows!
Sideshow dates:
- Saturday 23 July - Sydney Olympic Park, Sydney
- Sunday 24 July - Hisense Arena, Melbourne
THE KILLS
Don't miss a beat with our FREE daily newsletter
A late edition to the list of Splendour in the Grass sideshows announcements, The Kills are fresh off the Coachella bandwagon and ready to hit Australia with some killer attitude. The British-American rock duo like to keep their sound fresh, with a lineup of tracks from low-fi, garage to blues rock. Heavily influenced by bands such as Nirvana, The Rolling Stones, The Clash and Pixies, you know that a live show off of these guys is going to be entertaining.
Sideshow dates:
- Saturday 23 July - Forum Theatre, Melbourne
- Tuesday 26 July - Metro Theatre, Sydney
PETER, BJORN & JOHN
I don't know about you, but when I think of Peter, Bjorn & John, particularly their song 'Young Folks', every single time it takes me back to the opening scene of the Pilot to Gossip Girl. Now if that isn't reason enough to see the three-piece at their inevitably pop filled nostalgic sideshows, then i've got more for you anyway. The Swedish indie-pop group have recently released their seventh album, Breakin' Point to an already incredibly long list of songs, in turn leaving quite the mystery for a set list for their sideshows.
Sideshow dates:
- Wednesday 20 July - Metro Theatre, Sydney
- Thursday 21 July - The Corner, Melbourne
LAPSLEY
The girl has been making her way up the charts and if you've ever wanted to be the person who says "I went to their concert before they were famous" then i'd recommend Lapsley. Although already making a name for herself after the release of her debut album, Long Way Home, Lapsley is about to add Splendour to the list of festivals she's played it; such as Glastonbury and Lollapalooza. Her incorporation of sultry vocal tones and electronic elements in her music has given her a unique edge, and at such a young age too.
Sideshow dates:
- Tuesday 26 July - Howler, Melbourne
- Wednesday 27 July - Oxford Art Factory, Sydney
Other artists sideshows you'll want to see:
- The Cure
- Band of Horses
- Santigold
- Crystal Fighters
