The Australian musician's first single for the year is full of fun and energy, and now, there's an accompanying video to match the mood..
If you haven't yet acquainted yourself with Australian-based pop force Clairy Browne, then you're missing out on someone with a resume that some Australian pop acts would dream of. Initially, she made her debut fronting Clairy Browne & The Bangin' Rackettes, a dance-y soul-funk group that dropped their one and only album - Baby Caught the Bus - back in 2011, before sharing a final EP and disbanding a few years later. Clairy has been flying the pop flag ever since, collaborating with performers like RuPaul (yes, believe it or not) as she solidifies this new, confident sound with every solo record she puts out.
Her debut record - 2015's Pool - brought an introduction to Browne and her sound as a solo musician, before taking a bit of time away from the spotlight to refine her craft and work on forthcoming material. Last year, we got the first taste of what to expect from that material, with Not The Only - her first single in about four years - making a splash last year, carrying a far-reaching and playful pop sound in the process of doing so. It was an exploration of a new, late-night-set pop sound full of confidence and charisma, and now, we get a taste of how that's continuing to evolve with her second single, Self Care Sunday, arriving the other week.
Self Care Sunday is another breath of fresh air from the musician, further deepening that blossoming pop sound while reinforcing it with mannerisms and tones that make Clairy Browne's newfound sound distinct and unique; the end result - as she says - being a "voluptuous, dreamy slut-pop gem." We can't help but agree.
Today, we're stoked to premiere the single's official video clip, which reinforces those self-care themes of the single while amplifying the bold and loud energy that Clairy brings to Australia's pop landscape. Directed by Alex Dubois, the video clip is centred around pleasure; shots of Clairy donning a face mask and margarita interjected alongside clips full of sex toys and whips. It's truly out there, and we'd expect nothing else from this refined take on Clairy Browne, who is really making a mark with her newcoming material.
