Brisbane prog-metal lords Osaka Punch have outdone themselves with their newest clip, following on from the streetside air-guitar madness of Stonk by loading up their frontman, Jack Muzak, with LSD and sending him on a journey to the city's annual Ekka event at the Showgrounds.
For those who have never braved the technicolour terror that is the Ekka — rife as it is with carnival rides and transient merchants and abundant influenza — it is an adventure that is scary enough to undertake when sober, probably even more so when you're in the throes of a trip, trying to contend with all the deafening screaming coming from those rotating clown heads — can't anyone else hear that?! — and trying not to focus too hard on the fact you're pretty sure the ferris wheel is actually breathing. A blur of lights, rides, slinkies and faces ensues — as far as we're aware, Muzak survived the experience to play another day but, Jesus, it looks like it was touch-and-go there for a while.
The clip — which starts with a little two-minute sketch about the band trying to come up with an idea for their new video before settling on 'take acid at the Ekka', as you do — accompanies the ultra-funky new single, taken from the band's forthcoming EP, Death Monster Super Squad, which is due for release in just under a couple weeks' time.
To celebrate the release, the band will be embarking on a titular tour kicking off at Frankie's Pizza, in Sydney, on Wednesday 28 September, and taking in showings in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Byron Bay.
