Released last year as the first single from their 28 Mansions EP, Bad Websites saw Melbourne-via-Perth crew Flower Drums effortlessly charm us with a warm, guitar-laden production and delicate vocal work. It was (and still is, in my opinion) one of their best songs to date and set up the tone nicely for their later-released EP, which toyed with similar vibes throughout its five tracks. Building on this atmosphere comes Cruel Noon, a newly formed local production duo who have picked up Bad Websites and given it a newfound life and energy in the form of a percussion-dominated remix. The duo's influences in the UK underground dance movement ooze throughout the track, with a particularly playful, complex percussion line leading the way underneath vocal cuts from the original, some pulsating bass stabs and contrasting synth melodies. Following up from their slightly heavier remix of Sanjin's Nah Tell Dem, Cruel Noon's Flower Drums re-do is their most refined and stylish piece of work to date and an incredible introduction to the duo if you're yet to check them out.
