Premiere: Feels tease their debut album with Circles, feat. Joan & the Giants

WA electronic pairing Feels are musicians we've had the pleasure of spotlighting numerous times across their gradual national rise, championing them since day-dot as we watch them rise and rise in the face of collaborative efforts alongside Stella Donnelly, ZĀN and MISSY. They're a rare breed of act that work well regardless of their collaborator - if they have one at all - with their left-field, percussive productions often adapting to whoever they're paired with to complement the guest vocalist, rather than dominate like many other producers set out to do in the electronic space - whether that be Stella's light-heartedness on the powerful They Need Us ("I’ve always wanted to lure people in with those dreamy, happy-go-lucky sounds and then trick ‘em," she says on this approach to her often political songwriting), or ZĀN's soulful, R&B tinge on Assemble.

Their latest single, Circles, sees this continue. Teaming up with newcoming indie-pop act Joan & The Giants, Circles is a single that's built around the hazy vocal of their frontwoman Grace Newton-Wordsworth, with Feels once again moulding their signature sound around the vocalist their working with, creating with a chemistry almost incomparable within Australian songwriting. Circles is a song notably darker when compared to the rest of Feels' discography thus far, utilising moodier synth work as they work alongside Grace's haunting vocal which broods with this confident, but dark edge - something people are finding attractive in names such as Billie Eilish, for example. "We had so much fun recording this in the studio with Grace. We are exploring a darker side to Feels at the moment and Grace’s haunting vocal tone was a perfect fit for the track," the pair say on the single. "Circles is about two people trapped in a prison that they’ve built themselves. This ‘prison’ is the representation of a broken down relationship where all light has turned to shadow, and they stay trapped because they’re hiding in patterns and habits they’ve formed," continues Grace.
