Got The Time.
The Time Is Now launch is on at ReefO’s on Sunday from 1pm.
Time Is Now is the debut release for Great Shit Records. No, Time Is Now is not a cheesy Moloko reference; it’s a 19 track compilation disc featuring a swag of local artists including Last House On The Left, Platform 6, The Bloodpoets, Dubdoubt and The Packets to name but a few. And a good portion of the discs performers will be playing at the launch gig on Sunday.
“The ethos behind it was why have good shit when you can have Great Shit!” explains label head honcho Stuart, a twenty year veteran of the music industry. “I started out making up compilations of my favourite CDs in the bedroom on my trusty burner and that’s when the name first got used. I’ve always wanted to release my own product and there is so much unrecognised talent in Australia. After leaving school I worked in music retail and ran a successful management and touring business. GSR is an extension of this I guess.”
What were you looking for with the bands and tracks that appear on the disc?
“I like all the tracks on the album one way or another. It might be the raw demo capturing the true emotion or the attitude as a whole. A few of them are very polished album tracks but this doesn’t diminish the worth of the other tracks. All the bands are musically tight and lyrically they have something to say. There are no pop songs here that you could listen to and throw away without thinking first.”
Wwhat’s happening for the Time Is Now launch? Who can we catch live on the night, and what can we expect for the day?
“The short story is; 10 bands, 10 hours, $10.00. Punters get the CD and a chance to win two tickets to Teenage Fanclub. Drink specials, gourmet pizza and a day hanging at ReefO’s. Doors open Midday, bands start at 1pm.”
What else is coming up for the label?
“Some of the bands have expressed an interest in working with GSR on various projects. I would like to showcase some more of the recordings received since this track listing was finalised, but it all depends on the support we receive for Time Is Now. Most of these bands have a finished CD so if people like what they hear they can contact them and find out more direct from the artist.
Where will the disc be available after the launch?
“In Brisbane at Skinny’s Music and Sounds at Westfield’s Chermside Mall. It can also be purchased by visiting www.GreatShitRecords.com”
