"I found our guitarist Sudeep on Gumtree!"
Most days, bands are formed either in high school or via friends of friends. For Mirella's Inferno, it was a bit all over the place: "I found our guitarist Sudeep [Rao] on Gumtree!" Lead singer Meghan Dea explains how the band came together piece by piece after posting some demos online, "we then met our backing vocalist Courtney [Calloway], an avid fan who came to all our gigs and we realised that she could sing too!"
Since then the band have jelled perfectly. After releasing their second EP Haunting last year, the band have been experimenting with their sound and have a new single Eternal Seekers, "inspired by all the 'love' stories and the rat race we can be stuck in", out this month, and despite having no previous connections they have teamwork down pat. "Sudeep and I workshopped a simple looped track... before passing it on to Xan [Muller, synth and keys] and Rach [Florence, drums] for final input and production.
"We wanted to experiment with a slightly different sound without the commitment of an EP or album," expands Dea, explaining that recording in Muller's home studio created an environment with a bit of room to bounce, keeping the process "flexible and creative". "Xan's creative juices were overflowing and the track was mutating into various forms."
An unplugged edition is said to be making an appearance at their 19 Aug release show at Old Dave's Soul, alongside the rest of their electro-pop and grunge rock catalogue.
