The Top 30 Albums Of 2020 (So Far): Miiesha - 'Nyaaringu'

'The Music' team on the albums you need to hear from 2020.

More Miiesha Miiesha

"Nyaaringu is thematically, and communally, powerful." Cyclone

There was no way that Miiesha's incredible Nyaaringu wasn't going to make this list. From start to finish, the debut album from Miiesha Young - a Pitjantjatjara and Torres Strait Islander woman from Woorabinda, Central Queensland - is spectacular.

Presented as a 'collection of songs' rather than a traditional album, Young takes elements of R&B, alt, pop and soul to create a body of work that is truly her own. "I hadn’t quite found my sound yet and I didn’t know what was me and what I wanted to sound like," Miiesha told The Music of putting together Nyaaringu.

"I guess that is something I’ll keep discovering. But I knew who I was as a person and where I came from, and so that’s what got me to write and sing about these things that led to Nyaaringu."

Brace yourself before Twisting Words comes on, you're about to be hit with a whole lot of power from one of our most promising young artists.
