PS: So, what is the story behind the name Brazen Barbie?
BB: Brazen has two meanings. One definition is ‘made of brass’, which reflects strength, and the other definition is ‘bold’.
I chose Brazen as I resonate with the definition and I like putting a positive spin to the word. I added Barbie at the end to put a more feminine sound to it because growing up, Barbie was my favourite franchise.
PS: What are your influences musically with writing and creating your sound?
BB: I draw influence from old-school artists such as Missy Elliot, Remy Ma and Ashanti as well as more current artists such as Cardi B, Megan thee Stallion and Nicki Minaj.
I also draw influence from things myself or people around me are experiencing.
PS: What is the story behind your new single Brand New?
BB: I wrote and recorded Brand New in December 2022, after self-development and developing as an artist, and turning my focus on myself and my artistry without distractions or limitations. The lyrics reflect my newfound confidence and tunnel vision.
PS: How was it working with Joel Baker for your video? Has he done anything else we have seen?
BB: Working with Joel Baker was amazing. He added a lot of creativity and ideas when directing and his talent definitely reflects in his work! Anybody that hasn’t seen his work should definitely go check his videos out.
PS: What are your go-to tracks atm?
BB: My go-to tracks are Freaky-T by Tiacorine and Rush by Ayra Starr.
PS: What can you tell us about your highly anticipated EP coming out soon?
BB: My EP consists of five tracks including two R&B tracks and three hip-hop tracks. I’m excited for listeners to hear the versatility and the hard work I put into it!
PS: What have been your career highlights so far?
BB: Performing locally at different events and clubs, I love being on stage and being able to connect with people through my music!
