A young man has been left shaken after bemused after it emerged that a girl he'd made a love song mix-tape for failed to listen to it.
Sydney-based 20-year-old Daniel Simpson had taken a fancy to 19-year-old Melbourne girl Julie McLean earlier this year and decided to show his appreciation by sending her a 15-track mixtape, via a streaming service playlist.
Titled “Thinking Of You Always”, the mix includes tracks by Vance Joy, Chet Faker, Birds of Tokyo and Delta Goodrem, but it failed to capture the attention of Julie, who confirmed to him earlier this week that, “sorry, haven't listened to it.”
“I put a lot of time and effort into this,” Simpson told SPA Confidential today. “I originally selected 19 songs, but had to whittle it down to 15 after a couple of emotionally draining nights of culling.
“This is pretty much my version of a Clubbers' Guide, I feel like each one of these tracks is my baby and share a different aspect of my feelings for Julie. It really took you on a sonic and emotional journey… You can't understand what it feels like to have those feelings thrown back in your face.”

Contacted by SPA Confidential today, McLean said that while she actually liked all the songs but she'd “heard most of them already” and she “wasn't really interested in Daniel”.
“I thought music was meant to bring people together,” Simpson said, “but it seems to be driving me apart.”
As Daniel begins to overcome the shock of the situation he has vowed to re-think his courting approach in the future.
“Maybe people just aren't ready for streaming services,” he said. “My next mix-tape will be delivered by USB.”
