Love Thrills, the Sunshine Coast’s all-queer rock outfit, are back - this time dropping an “ambitious” track titled MAGIC, a pop rock anthem not to be missed.

Lead singer Jodie Elfski explains: “It’s actually a story about growing up in hetero-normative Australia, jumping on the relationship escalator and getting married, realising you’re actually gay, falling in love with your catalyst, and then realising your true love is actually your best mate - who was there beside you the whole time. It’s devastating.”

The track is slated for release in just over a month, February 28. But Love Thrills aren’t waiting till then. The band are playing a headline show at The Cave Inn tonight, and will be playing MAGIC live. They’ll be supported by Damien, as well as Hugo And The Hive.

And, to celebrate their upcoming release, Love Thrills are telling The Music all about their favourite queer artists:

Salt and Steel: “Cute as hell queer couple getting round the country in their van and leaving songs everywhere they go. Living their best life. Massive props to them.”

Hope D: “We love this human. They’re doing so much for the Meanjin scene. Super talented songwriter.”

Ixaras: “Really enjoying this young Meanjin artist. Reminds us of Sonic Youth and Deadstar. Big guitars with cute vocals.”

VOIID: “Heartfelt and personal trials and tribulations of modern life. Passion drives through with cool, punk vibes that make you want to get with your mates and dance.”

Ryan Cassata: “Trans musician from LA. Super important trans and non-binary advocate. DIY protest songs that ooze the essence of true no-fucks-given punk rock.”

But Love Thrills themselves are not to be overlooked in the LGBTQIA+ music scene. As Elfski says, “All members of the band are queer, and two of us are gender non-conforming. We’ve got some stories. You pick your battles, ignore the rest, and carry on living your most epicly beautiful authentic life.”

Love Thrills are playing The Cave Inn tonight alongside Damien and Hugo And The Hive. Find tickets here.
