Introducing Jessica Says and her ice-cool new noir-pop LP, Do With Me U You Will

A good six years after the release of her debut album, We Need To Talk, Melbourne-based artist Jessica Says has unveiled album number two - Do With Me What U Will. It's an album inspired by the (very understandable) reason it's been so long between drinks - Jessica Says fractured her spine and pelvis after falling out of a first-floor hotel window. It's a beguiling collection of 10 dramatic tracks that dabble in weird-pop world where Jessica Says is the master of ceremonies. We sent her a few questions to get to know her a little better. Tell us about about yourself?

I'm a psychiatric nurse who plays cello and writes songs.

What kinda music are we talking?

Pop, with dense string arrangements and hyper-emotional lyrics.

Production/writing process:

I write songs by singing in to my phone in bathrooms and on my work breaks, gradually piecing them together. Recording usually involves layering many tracks of my vocals, cello, keyboard and sometimes piano.

Can you tell us about your new album, Do With Me What You Will?

The songs were written in between 2009 and 2015, and are mostly about girlhood, desire and mental illness. I was lucky to work with some producers who are also dear friends - Geoffrey O'Connor, Darcy Baylis and Travis Cook from Collarbones.

What’s the rest of the year have in store?

My album launch at the Toff on July 22 with the incredible artists Callan and Sarah Mary Chadwick, playing some more dreamy shows and recording my new songs (more info HERE).
