What makes your event stand out from other festivals? Music has always been a huge part of the Tumut community, long before AC/DC played here in 1975. Born in 2013, Rock The Turf Music Fest tries to entice headline artists from across Australia to perform in rural areas.
What’s improved for your next event? Bigger stage, better sound system, more dance space, more food and drinks, more national artists, loads of friendly faces.
Favourite festival ‘Do you remember when…’ moment? 19-Twenty had around 50 people on stage with them, all dancing with Kane and the guys.....it was crazy.
Which artist – living or dead – would you like to have backstage drinks with? Frank Zappa.
How is the festival landscape changing? Music festivals are becoming more and more popular. It shows that live music in this country is alive and well. A lot of smaller communities miss out on seeing national and international artists perform so we do what we can to try and make it a reality.
Is there more pressure to create an “instagrammable” festival? Instagram is a great for sharing photos and experiences. There are plenty of opportunities at Rock The Turf to get a photo with artists who tend to roam the crowd during the day.
How do you go about ensuring your festival is a safe space? Fully fenced premises, licensed bar, security guards on site, local police walk throughs.

What are your views on pill testing? Do you think it has a place at festivals? I think the main priority for any event organiser is the health and safety of the people attending. If pill testing is needed to have a fantastic, safe event then maybe it's something to look at. We need everyone to have a great time and enjoy the music.
