Valley Fiesta is a street festival like no other; it's an annual pilgrimage for thousands of party-hungry music fans to Fortitude Valley every October. It’s been almost a quarter of a century since Valley Fiesta festival first landed in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley, and in those 23 years, the annual block party has hosted close to 500 live performances from artists across Australia and the world.
As the event once again gears up to take over the Valley - this time for the 24th year in a row - Purple Sneakers is taking a look back at some of the amazing artists that have graced the stages over the years.
FLUME (2012)
Just a little over two weeks before dropping his debut, self-titled album ‘Flume’, a young, 21 year old Harley Streten wandered onto the mainstage at Valley Fiesta 2012, and blew Brisbane’s mind. Despite only having released two singles at this stage, the crowd for Flume encompassed almost the entire northern end of Brunswick street, with a sea of people sandwiched together between 7/11 and the Brunswick street mall.

ALISON WONDERLAND (2013)
Nowadays, you’re more likely to see Alison Wonderland performing at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Austin City Limits or EDC, but back in 2013 she was performing in Fortitude Valley. After carving out a name for herself as one of Sydney’s must-see DJs, producer Alison Wonderland announced the release of her first single ‘Get Ready’ in July 2013, before making her way north to Brisbane, for Valley Fiesta.
FATMAN SCOOP (2017)
2017 was a weird year in music - Blink-182’s Tom DeLonge won an award for his UFO research, Fyre Festival happened, a SpongeBob SquarePants musical featuring music from David Bowie premiered on Broadway….and Fatman Scoop performed at Valley Fiesta, for some reason. Even if no one saw it, it definitely happened.
VIOLENT SOHO (2007)
Several years before the phrase ‘Hell Fuck Year’ made its way into the Australian music lexicon, Mansfield band Violent Soho performed a super raw, 5-song set at Valley Fiesta, comprising of My Generation, Bombs Over Broadway, Revolutionary, Jesus Stole My Girlfriend and left field cover of My Pal by GOD.
THE JUNGLE GIANTS (2017)
Just a few months after the release of ‘Quiet Ferocity’, and a massive lap around the country to celebrate it, The Jungle Giants returned to their rightful home beside the beloved brownsnake, for what was sure to be their last performance at Valley Fiesta.
