Over the years, WAMFest has blossomed into an institution of the WA music world, showcasing the endless and often-overlooked talent of the west coast across a range of venues in Perth and Northbridge. It's become a one-stop-shop of every facet of a large-spanning music culture from the big, already-dominating names to those quickly becoming the next big thing, and while the soon-approaching BIGSOUND and similar events spotlight the greater Australian music scene, WAMFest has always been about highlighting WA music and WA musicians, giving them a platform - sometimes the largest stages of their career thus far - to showcase their strengths.
Almost every single now-established West Australian act has showcased at WAMFest, but with the density of this year's lineup, it's clear that WA music is going through somewhat of a golden period at the moment. WAMFest covers every single side of this flourishing music scene, from the hip-hop to the indie-pop to music heavier and darker, and as expected, it's stacked full of talent that we've come to spotlight over the years. Amongst this year's lineup are some of WA's most exciting acts of the moment - Abbe May, Dulcie, Riley Pearce, Noah Dillon, Demon Days, Ruby Boots, Downsyde - littered amongst acts that over the last few months, we've found ourselves spotlighting time and time again, from Butter and Tired Lion spin-off Duck Teeth to MALI JO$E and Hyclass - two acts that showcase the talent amongst our hip-hop circuit at the moment.
With WAMFest's Block Party calling an end last year, this year's festivities are stretched across venues throughout Perth and Northbridge across November 1st and 2nd, with WAMCon - which we'll get to later on - operating across the same time. There's also a bunch of community-focused programs amongst the mix too - WAM's New Noise Collective, music school Rock Scholars, SAE Institute, The Rock Pit and underground music promoter Alt - while once again, in perhaps the most enticing draw of the lot, this year's WAMFest is entirely FREE, meaning that you have no excuse to not delve into the endless talent of the WA music world, which is quickly becoming an Australian highlight.
