Busker’s Dad Hits Out At Passers By After ‘Attack’

"Jealous and stupid" haters get a dressing down from the old man.

Gold Coast man Greg Sampson, the father of 38-year-old busker Shaun Samson – best known by his stage name SS Rock Machine – has today slammed a group of passers-by after his son's recent foray in busking netted him no more than a pittance.

Mr Sampson, who manages his son's career, today launched into a vicious attack on a group of young professionals in Surfers Paradise's Cavil Avenue.

“I'm just sick of people not having respect from great artists like SS Rock Machine,” Sampson said this afternoon. “They go out in public and will just walk straight past this great performer such as the Rock Machine and not pay a lick of attention. While we've had to learn to deal with that, it's the attacks from haters on the street that I've just had enough of.”

When asked what the attack in question was, Mr Sampson said passers-by were “making childish remarks” and “spreading hateful messages”.

“Walking in their little group like the weak little so-and-sos they are, not wearing name badges, laughing in the face of one of the great artists of our time who is just trying to earn a little money to get back in the game.”

The incident comes in the wake of the father of frontman for 90s rock band Orgy lashing out at those reporting on the failure of his son's band's campign.

SPA Confidential tracked down the victim of the abuse this afternoon, who assures his group was not poking fun at the entertainer.

“Yeah we were laughing, but it wasn't at the busker. He was actually really annoying, if I'm being honest.”

It is believed Mr Sampson's outburst may have been exacerbated by SS Rock Machine's poor takings. At the time of publication he had earned just $7 of his $1,000 goal – money he would use to relaunch his career as a recording and touring artist.

“Jealousy and stupidity,” Sampson said when asked why he felt the public weren't getting behind his son's campaign. “Hey, childish haters, get ready because the new music will speak for itself no doubt.”
