‘I Have To Go Rogue Every Single Time’: Peach PRC Reflects On The Past As She Steps Into Her New Era

BIGSOUND 2019 Artist Focus: Fletcher Gull

What you need to know about your BIGSOUND artists.

Give us a short description of your music: Alt-indie, happy sad, pensive pop, "upliftingly melancholy". Your Friends Are Doing Shoeys But You're Sitting By The Fire Being Overwhelmed By The Universe, The Soundtrack. Modest Mouse meets an old cat.

Which acts are on your must-see list at BIGSOUND? Sunbeam Sound Machine, Japanese Wallpaper, Shady Nasty.

Why should people come and see you among the many amazing bands at BIGSOUND? An old man once told me that I was charged with a sacred quest from the Sun God to change people's lives with my music, after I played underneath a hostel in Toronto. So going off of that, you should come if you wish to appease the Sun God.

What music trends do you think are dominating right now, and do you have any predictions for the coming year? Plate reverb certainly doesn't seem to be going anywhere. Seeing a decrease in hi-hat triplets – maybe an opportunity for quintuplets to really step up to the plate. Prediction: increased popularity of divorce-wave and dad-poetry.

In your career to date, what have been the key watershed moments? Working with Japanese Paper on Hypothermia – such a cool kid. Having a panel including Tom Waits say that I wrote the best folk song of the year. Touring in Mexico with my old band Glab – such a fun place, if you're sizing it up as a holiday destination, hmu.

What industry lessons would you like to take away from the BIGSOUND conference? How to come up with a great formula for looking like you don't have a formula and how to slowly inject myself into the lives of all the awesome people out there I want to work with.

What do you identify as the most pressing issue impacting the Australian music industry at present? We should build more cities throughout the country to increase touring opportunities/efficiency and generally broaden the avenues for success in the Australian music industry.

What is the best bit of advice you've been given to prepare for your time at BIGSOUND? My mum told me to do the best I could

When and where is your BIGSOUND showcase? 4 Sep, Heya Bar, 8.20pm; 5 Sep, Heya Bar, 11.40pm.
