AylaIt must be a pretty exciting time to be Sunshine Coast-bred songstress Ayla right now, as the Wish I Was hitmaker moves from strength to strength in the lead-up to the release of brand-spankin'-new single Waiting, streaming today on theMusic.com.au!
The new work made its radio premiere last night on triple j's nightly Good Nights program with Linda Marigliano, and has some big shoes to fill in the wake of its predecessor, which ended up being the station's 15th-most-played track last year — but it's off to a cracking start by sheer virtue of being another strong showing from the ascendant singer-songwriter.
In addition to her growing airplay clout, Ayla has seen quite a bit of industry-centric success of late, too, having recently signed to Italy's Ego Music in the wake of Wish I Was' 2014 release, joining fellow Aussies The Jezabels and Emma Louise on the roster, as well as embarking on solo spots for the likes of The John Steel Singers, BONJAH and Husky. Further, Ayla has just announced her signing with manager Ange Kohler, a veteran of the Queensland scene and former member of the city's stalwart Mucho Bravado promotional cabal, and in late March was named as the first-ever female recipient of the Queensland Music Awards' annual Billy Thorpe Scholarship — and all this before her 21st birthday, so, yes, expect big things as the young muso's profile continues to rise.
Waiting is officially released as a single this Friday, 8 May, and comes ahead of even more offerings from Ayla; namely, an impending video clip and eagerly awaited EP, which is due out at an as-yet unspecified time later this year — but the sooner, the better.
