Fuzzed-out Sydney garage-psych-rockers Grinding Eyes release their eagerly awaited self-titled, debut studio full-length this week, but you can get your first full listen of the record now exclusively on theMusic.com.au.
Recorded in Sydney by Owen Penglis (Straight Arrows, The Grates), the album was written between the band's home town and San Francisco, with additional international vibes coming courtesy of its mixing in Montpellier, France, by Jim Diamond (The Hives, Dirtbombs, White Stripes, The Sonics) and mastering in Detroit at Ghetto Recorders.
The band could justifiably be billed as something of a local supergroup, given their pedigree; boasting members from outfits such as The Mess Hall and Treatment, Grinding Eyes serves up a droning, shoegaze-splashed take on the typical psych/garage sound, pulling the listener back to the hazy days of yore through vintage soundscapes and a determination to be as sonically exploratory as possible without ever being inaccessible.
The nine-track album will be released this Friday, 20 October, through Off The Hip Records, with an accompanying vinyl release available via Tym Records.
The band will be launching their self-titled debut with a pair of upcoming shows, starting off this Saturday, 21 October, at Sydney's Lansdowne Hotel (with Holy Soul, Skullsquadron, Smash Repairs and more) and following that up on Saturday 28 October at The Curtin, Melbourne, with Warped, TV Haze and Beat Taboo.
