Album title? DUST
Where did the title of your new album come from? DUST is the name of the title track of the album. I wrote the song about three years ago and it ties in a stream of nostalgic feelings and memories from my childhood home.
How many releases do you have now? This is the first release under my own name, although I've featured on a few other local/international projects
How long did it take to write/record? The music has been in the making for years and years, but I've been playing it with this particular combo of musos for about 2. We recorded all instruments live in the studio over two days.
Was anything, in particular, inspiring you during the making? The album as a whole has a definite sense of melancholy. Most songs are inspired by little sparks of magic/intense emotion that I've seen in normal everyday life, and lots have childhood memories woven in.
What's your favourite song on it? Visiting - it's the newest composition, and I still find it really relevant to my life/self at the moment.
Will you do anything differently next time? I love the ensemble dynamic on this album and am really happy with the end result, but would love to explore different textures/instruments next time - possibly strings/more woodwind.
When and where is your launch/next gigs? The album launch will be at the Ellington Jazz Club on May 17 at 7pm.
