“Your little cinematic universe is about to change forever.”
'Deadpool & Wolverine' (Marvel Studios)
Ryan Reynolds has personally blessed the Internet with the first look at the upcoming third Deadpool movie – titled Deadpool & Wolverine – ahead of a Super Bowl spot arriving later today.
The film shows Reynolds’ eponymous anti-hero (aka Wade Wilson) being captured by agents of the Time Variance Authority (who were introduced in the Disney+ series Loki) and told by their new leader Paradox (played in the film by Matthew Macfadyen) that he has a chance to be “a hero among heroes”. Wilson accepts the mission, declaring to Paradox, “Your little cinematic universe is about to change forever. I’m the Messiah... I... Am... Marvel Jesus.”
Wolverine himself doesn’t make an appearance in the trailer – aside from a silhouette at the very end – but we’ve long known that Hugh Jackman will reprise his role as the iconic X-Man.

Deadpool & Wolverine is due to hit Australian cinemas on July 24, coming as the fourth film in Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’ll be Marvel Studios’ only feature release for 2024 – following the release of The Marvels last November, and ahead of Captain America: Brave New World next February – and it’s expected to be their first film sporting an MA15+ rating in Australia.
Marvel Studios dipped its toes into more adult territory with its Disney+ fare, starting with the one-shot special Werewolf By Night in 2022, then last month’s bloody Echo series.
In other Marvel news, it was confirmed last week that a crew member died on the set of the upcoming series Wonder Man. The production was temporarily halted, and police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
