Ahead of Tycho's appearance in Australia he took five with us to discuss his ever-evolving music.. Scott Hansen (pictured below) is not only known as the creative force behind Tycho (where he's joined by Zac Brown and Rory O'Connor), but also as the graphic designer ISO50 who is behind the colour-merging artworks for his albums. Ahead of his national tour of Australia including an apperance at Southbound (check our Happy Camper ticket giveaway HERE) he chatted with Liam Apter about the lack of vocals in his work, how he feels closer to finding pure meaning in art over music, and the freedom of instrumental music from specific meaning.

Our Stagebound selection selects five WA-based artists of their own.. From grungy apartment chills to weird psychedelic trip in a second.. Following a video premiere on Vice's NOISEY, Sydney's DMA's continue their march of world dominance, winning the hearts and minds of all and sundry with their Brit-pop vibes, low key aesthetic and general seemingly disinterested attitude. But when the music's this good you know it's a bunch of very talented young chaps making extremely fun sing-along pub-pop that's easy to see why they've captured the attention of many here and abroad. Their latest clip, for Laced and shot by Sydney director Gabrielle Dadgostar seems like it's just gonna be three dudes sitting around a dingy apartment, until it explodes into a colourful psychedelic flurry of weird shit. Perfect. They're playing Southbound next year, so get your tinnies ready, lighters lit and shoulders warmed up for some serious arm-in-arm sing-along vibes.

A new format for Southbound's local band comp, and we're getting involved.. Southbound's local band comp is getting a little makeover in 2015 - putting the power of selecting the winner is your hands via voting system. Interested artists need to send Southbound their applications, from which they will finalise a shortlist of bands they feel have been working hard/making waves in the WA music scene. With a little help from reputable WA music media outlets The Music, Xpress and, urm... us, three finalists will be selected, and each media outlet will pick one finalist to root for during the month of November. All three finalists will be showcased one night in November (TBA), and finally, once your votes are tallied, the winner will be revealed. The winner of Stagebound will open the Big Top stage on Saturday 3 January at Southbound 2015, plus voters go in the running to win a double Happy Camper pass. Movement are currently supporting Banks overseas, and just released a sneaky little HAIM jam.. If you're getting tired of our bleating on about Movement - too bad. It's not gonna stop til the rest of Australia catches on. They're currently supporting Banks in the US, so while they're star continues to rise overseas, they remain relatively quiet over here. We're hoping that all changes when they melt your face at the upcoming Falls and Southbound Festivals, but until then here's a sweet HAIM cover, and while you're at it go have another LISTEN to their EP from earlier this year.
