'A real focus for Australian bands to play their unofficial shows on top of their official showcases.'

The Federal Government has thrown its support behind Australian artists performing at SXSW in 2019, with the announcement of a new seven-day version of its AUSTRALIAHOUSE venue.

Launched last year as a two-day event, the venue hosted interactive and marketing meetings and two stages for local artists to perform for punters at the Texas conference.

The upgrade has been backed by the Department of Foreign Affairs and its G'Day USA organisation.

G'Day USA program director, Erin Gray, confirmed in a statement that the event will return to Rainey Street in Austin from 10-17 March.

Local SXSW representative Phil Tripp has welcomed the news that AUSTRALIAHOUSE will return in 2019.

"Australia House was a brilliant concept last year that took the federal government about five years to implement from their initial studies to work across a number of creative content areas - marketing, advertising, interactive games, VR, AR, music and film," Tripp told The Music today.

"They had a huge success with it because of its diversity and it also gave a real focus for Australian bands to play their unofficial shows or repeat shows on top of their official showcases.

"It was a great venue."

The Australian artists heading to SXSW next year are expected to be announced this Thursday (18 October).
