The annual celebration of music and art returns to Victoria in January
Two months since confirming its intention to return to the Victorian College of Arts in 2016, the annual Sugar Mountain Festival has unveiled its 2016 line-up, with the cabal of acts on offer in Melbourne this January led by the A-list likes of Hot Chip, Dirty Three and eight-time 2015 ARIA Award nominee Courtney Barnett.
The trio of acts sit atop a list filled with no-less-impressive acts; although Le1f was pre-emptively revealed on Friday as being among the Sugar Mountain acts for next year's event, there are still plenty of surprises up organisers' sleeves, including Kelela, Royal Headache, Viet Cong, Alpine, Total Giovanni, Pearls, City Calm Down, Sampa The Great and more. In addition, there's the outdoor Boiler Room stage, for which there will be an online live stream, while VIP guests with access to the Executive Sweet space will find a new plush indoor/outdoor setting replete with full-service bar, phone charging, concierge service and a few extra pot-sweeteners for good measure.
Meanwhile, art-lovers are also well catered-for, with work from NONOTAK, fuse*, SIBLING, Yahna Fookes & Martha Zakarya, Daniel Askill, Nic Hamilton and Prue Stent, Honey Long & Clare Longley all contributing to 2016's event, while Bomba, Tin & Ed and Cut Copy have their fingerprints all over the festival's eagerly awaited restaurant, Sensory. And, don't forget, if you're a young artist on the way to graduation at the Victorian College of the Arts, you're eligible to enter the running for the festival's inaugural Sugar Mountain Art Prize.
Tickets for next year's Sugar Mountain — held Saturday 23 January at the Victorian College of the Arts — go on sale from noon (local time) next Monday, 19 October, via Moshtix and the festival.
