One graduating student from VCA will join the Sugar Mountain arts line-up.

Sugar Mountain has today announced a new annual art prize, Sugar Mountain Art Prize, to be presented by the festival and the Victorian College Of The Arts.

The prize will be awarded to a graduating student from VCA, who will join the 2016 Sugar Mountain arts line-up on 23 January at VCA, and create a large-scale work for the festival site, with assistance from well known curators and the prize judges. The prize for a young, emerging artist is valued at $7,500 and will cover the costs of creating the work and the time involved in doing so, as well as exposing the early career artist to a greater audience.

The judging panel includes Melissa Loughnan, Director of Utopian Slumps; Simon Maidment, Head Curator of National Gallery Of Victoria; and Pete Keen, Sugar Moutnain Creative Director.

The winner of the prize will be announced in November.
