Triple j (and everyone else) attracting more listeners

Triple j — and pretty much everyone else — are still attracting more listeners that 2DayFM in Sydney as the once-dominant station continues to slide following the loss of its flagship presenters Kyle & Jackie-O last year.

Sydney

It's tough reading for 2Day FM, they lose another 0.2 percentage points to hold just a 3.6 percent weekday share — that's behind 2UE, smoothfm, NOVA 96.9, triple j and more. Their losses are coming across the board, but their breakfast slot (down 0.3 to 3.3 percent) and the 25-39 demographic (down 1.2 to 5.4 percent) are of particular concern.

Although it's not all happy sailing from Kyle & Jackie-O's new home KIIS1065, they've lost the FM breakfast lead to WSFM's Jonesy & Amanda again. WSFM gained 0.5 to hold 9.9 percent while KIIS lost 0.7 to hold 9.8 percent.

Triple j remain steady on weekdays with a 5.3 percent share.

Melbourne

3AW remain heads and shoulders above the pack in Melbourne, with a 13.8 percent weekday share — largely thanks to a commanding 18.3 percent breakfast lead. ABC774 are the only ones who come close with a 11.4 percent weekday share.

Triple j have taken the lead in the 24-39 age group this period with a 12.6 percent hold, despite dropping 0.1 percentage point to a 4.7 percent weekday share.

The top FM station is Southern Cross Austereo's FOXFM, which is fairing better than its Sydney sister station with an 8.2 percent weekday share.

brisbane

Triple j are the big weekday gainers this period, building on the momentum from the fifth survey of the year. They gain 1.1 percentage points to hold a 8.5 percent weekday share and ensuring that Brisbane is one of the public broadcaster's best markets. The gains came across the timezones but particularly in the 18-24 demographic, where they picked up 7.8 points to hold a share of 21 percent — second only ton NOVA's 21.3 percent.

Brisbane's top is still pretty tight, with 97.3FM leading weekdays with 13.1 percent (down 0.6). NOVA and ABC612 are tied with 11.7 percent share and Triple M are closing the gap with a strong gain of 0.5 pushing them to a 10.4 percent share.

Perth

NOVA have closed the gap on market leaders MIX 94.5 considerably in the sixth ratings period, with a jump of 1.2 percentage points taking them to a 13.7 percent weekday share. MIX dropped 0.5 to hold 13.9 percent. 

Elsewhere it was steady as she goes, the triple j losing 0.5 percentage points to hold 10 percent of the share in their strongest market. The public broadcaster still commands the 18-24 demographic with a 29.3 percent share, down 3.4 points this period.

Adelaide

NOVA appear to have taken a fair chunk of triple j's audience this radio ratings period, with a 1.5 point jump to 11.9 percent weekday share while the js lost 1.1 points to hold 6.4 percent.

NOVA gained 8.6 points in 18-24 to hold 29.2 percent and 2.2 in 25-39 to hold 17.2 percent. On the other side triple j lost 6.5 points in 18-24 to hold 12.2 percent and 2.2 in 25-39 to hold 14.2 percent.

MIX 102.3 still lead the market with a strong margin, however. 15.3 percent share in the weekday market is helped by dominating the morning and afternoon slots.
