Triple J Lose Perth Lead In Latest Radio Ratings

WA city still jjj's strongest market

After history-making figures in the previous radio ratings, triple j have lost the top spot in Perth in new metro market figures released today.

The first time the public broadcaster had ever topped a metro market, Nova, Mix 94.5 and new leader 96FM have all jumped triple j, whose figures have consolidated since the previous figures. With stready losses across the timeslots and demographics, they still lead the key 18-24 year old category, with 29.4 percent of the share despite a 9.3 percent drop.

Covering Sunday 7 July to Saturday 14 September, the sixth ratings period of the year saw triple j remain steady in Sydney and Adelaide, post an increase in Brisbane and slide slightly in Melbourne.

SYDNEY

2GB remain the clear market leader with a 14 percent share of the Monday-Friday market, opening up a gap on ABC 702 who lost 1.1 percent to hold a 10.9 percent share. The big weekday gainer for this period was new station smoothfm, who finally started to gather momentum with a 1.4 percent increase to 6.5 percent. WSFM had a tough period, with a 1 percent drop to 6.1 percent as did Triple M, who are down to 5.6 percent after a 1.2 percent drop. Triple j didn't move, remaining at 5.3 percent while gaining 0.5 percent to 6.5 percent on the weekends. Sydney is triple j's toughest market.

2GB remain the only frequency with a double figure weekend share (just), with 10 percent of the market. All of a sudden smoothfm are second in the Saturday-Sunday race, with a 1.3 percent jump to 7.9 percent.

MELBOURNE

A fairly steady Monday to Friday market saw the biggest move come from triple j, who lost 0.8 percent in the Monday-Friday ratings, where they're down to 5.7 percent. Fellow ABC station ABC 774 fared better with a 0.3 percent drop leaving them with a 12.5 percent share, second only to 3AW's steady 13.9 percent.

3AW also lead the weekend with 12.2 percent, where ABC 774 closed the gap by way of a 0.6 percent gain to 11.5 percent. The biggest move came from FOXFM, who lost 0.9 percent to 7.4 percent. Triple j lost 0.4 percent to 5.1 percent.

A lot of FOX's losses came in the 10-17 and 18-24 demographics, which they lost 6.7 percent in both. They still lead 1017 with 25.5 percent, however, and are down to 13.3 percent in 18-24, which is lead by triple j's 18.2 percent (down 1.9 percent). Triple M was the big 18-24 gainer, with a 6.4 percent jump to 15.2.

BRISBANE

Triple j were the biggest weekday gainers in Brisbane, which is now their second strongest market, with a 1.1 percent increase taking them to 8.5 percent share. They sit behind a number of frequencies in the typically tight Brisbane battleground, which continues to be led by 97.3FM with 12.9 percent (down 0.1), followed by NOVA's 12 percent (down 0.6), Triple M's 11.4 percent (up 0.7), B105's 11 percent (up 0.6) and ABC 612's 10.3 percent (up 0.1).

97.3 also extended their weekend lead, with a 1.3 percent rise to a dominating 14.3 percent share. NOVA is again closest, with a 11.9 percent share (down 0.3). Triple j enjoyed a 0.8 percent boost to 8.3 percent.

ADELAIDE

Mix102.3's massive weekday lead was cut down to size with a 2.1 percent drop leaving them with 14.3 percent of the listenership.ABC891 are within touching distance now with a 0.8 percent jump boosting them to 13.2 percent share. Cruise is down one percent to 7.2 percent, while triple j are steady at 7.1 percent.

NOVA were the big weekend winners, with a 1.5 percent jump pushing them to 11.6 percent of the market, which is still lead by MIX with a 14.5 percent hold.

Mix picked up 6.7 percent in the 10 to 17 demographic, which is dominated by Nova with 42.6 percent.

PERTH

The most volatile market of the recent surveys gave 96FM the lead this weekday period after triple j's history-making stats last period. Triple j lost 1.6 percent to have a 11.5 percent weekend share, behind 96's 12.9 percent (up 0.2), MIX 94.5's 12.5 percent (up 0.2) and NOVA's 12.1 percent (up 1.1 percent). On the weekends the js were down 2.2 to 10.2 percent share, with NOVA's 12.2 percent now the market leader. The biggest weekend rise came from 96FM, who gained 1.2 to 11.3 percent.

Triple j still control the 18-24 demographic with 29.4 percent of the market, down 9.3 percent, while their 10-17 gains took a hit this period, halved from 17.5 percent to 8.5.
