More Pluto Jonze More Pluto Jonze

It's been a little while since we last heard from Sydney songsmith Pluto Jonze, but he's returned to the fore with funky new single Swingin' Like I'm Bowie, the video for which is proudly premiering on theMusic.com.au today.

Shot in Yuendumu, Northern Territory (with the permission of the local community), the video as much marks Jonze's return from the wilderness as it portrays a trip to the heart of it, the stunning landscapes mixing seamlessly with the clip's quirky, surrealist visual effects to complement the tune's polished psych-pop sounds.

"I was visiting my girlfriend at her medicine placement at Aboriginal community in Yuendumu (three hours north-west of Alice Springs)," Jonze explains of the shoot. "I met this local music producer named Donovan playing slap bass on his porch one day."

"We jammed a few times together and I told him I needed a film clip for one of my songs. He helped me quite a lot with locations and getting the right community permission to film. It was an amazing experience and I am very grateful to the local people and to Donovan."

The single is Jonze's first solo work since his enthusiastically received 2014 second EP, Sucker, though the musician has far from been resting on his laurels in the intervening time; attentive listeners would recognise his vocals as a recent addition to the songs of Hey Geronimo, including their Like A Version cover last year.

He's ready once again to spread his wings and pursue his solo passions, though, and if Swingin' Like I'm Bowie is anything to go off, we're all going to be musically richer for it.

Swingin' Like I'm Bowie is officially released this Friday, 23 June, via Bird's Robe Records.

If you're keen to see him in action, Jonze will be out and about supporting Furnace & The Fundamentals in Melbourne (Saturday 1 July, Max Watt's) and Sydney (Saturday 8 July, Enmore Theatre) in the near future.
