New Music: Spirit Faces - Cloudplay (Feat. BUOY) (Time Pilot Remix)
Time Pilot turn up the intensity on a track from Sydney's Spirit Faces.. Perth producers Time Pilot had a really industrious 2014; edging their way into the contemporary Australian electronic music map with some promising originals, including a killer number, Vowel Play, on our Pilerats Records RAT PACK #2 Compilation, before ending the year with a big undertaking - a remix for Peking Duk & Safia's Take Me Over, that they very much nailed. Their studio work was matched only with their aptitude on the live circuit; as they tore apart the local stage at CIRCO Festival, and took on live sets at a number of WA club nights, with aplomb. Time Pilot show no signs of slowing down in 2015, in fact they've hit the ground running, putting some work into Cloudplay, a warm, low-key offering from Sydney electronic instrumentalist Spirit Faces (TEEF Recordings), that Spirit Faces shared with us as a premiere on Pilerats last last year. Time Pilot imbue the lilting track with razory atmospherics and b

New Music: Twerps - I Don’t Mind
Melbourne lo-fi lovelies Twerps have made the perfect Sunday slacker song.. Lo-fi garage pop was really on trend my formative gig-attending years. For my 21st birthday I made all my mates come and see Best Coast at Becks Box, and I’ll never forget lining up for ages during a Chicago heatwave to see Real Estate play an incredible set in a crowded basement for the Pitchfork Festival after party. Plus, growing up in Perth, you’re steeped in the stuff: rough-and-raw band bills out the back of record stores and in backyards were a staple of most of my early-twenties weekends. For whatever reason, lo-fi garage seems to taken a back seat at the moment, with beats ruling the current contemporary music landscape. However, Twerps’ new track I Don’t Mind presents a prime opportunity to welcome some lo-fi slacker garage back into all of our lives. Melbourne’s DIY scene has always been a goldmine for raw indie garage, and Melbourne four-piece Twerps are one of the bands that have led that charge. E

Chet Faker US TV Debut
Chet Faker owns The Ellen Show, and soon, all of America.. Turns out Portia de Rossi isn’t the only Australian that tastemaking comedian and talk show host Ellen DeGeneres is in love with. Our own prince of alt-pop deconstruction, Chet Faker, who recently won triple j’s Best Record of 2014 for his studio debut Built on Glass, and won multiple awards at last year’s ARIA Awards, including Best Male Artist, was recently named by Ellen DeGeneres as “one of [her] favourite new artists”, right prior to him giving a sensual rendition of Gold for The Ellen DeGeneres Show audience. “He’s an amazing singer songwriter from Australia,” Ellen preached to millions of Americans tuned in, pretty much cementing his status as a rising star in the US. Not a bad way to start the year! It was the US daytime TV debut for the Melbourne-bred songwriter and producer, who recently relocated to Brooklyn to work on US promo – he’ll head back to Australia in February to play his biggest ever Australian tour (dates

New Music: O.T. Genasis - ‘Coco’ (Dark0 remix) + New Video
Dark0 stretches out O.T. Genasis' street anthem, which also scores a racy new vid.. 2014 was a good year for hip hop newcomers making it big on the power of one hit track: joining Bobby Shmurda, Rae Sremmurd and Dej Loaf in this respect was Long Beach rapper O.T. Genasis, a protégée of Busta Rhymes, who basically rose to prominence overnight with his street anthem CoCo, an over-the-top tribute to dealing cocaine.  There’s been two awesome pieces of news on the CoCo front this week: an incredible remake of the video clip with a heap of rap celebrity cameos, and a remix from one of our favourite new grime producers Dark0.  While the first CoCo video took place primarily in a kitchen, and wasn’t even in high definition, CoCo’s upgraded things considerably: the re-make is set in a mansion and in the streets of South Beach, and there’s yachts and Lamborghinis! Also lots of women in racy bikinis, that are, erm, well-endowed in the backend. Most amazingly, DJ Khaled and Timbaland are in the c

New Music: Röyksopp - Sordid Affair (LO'99 Remix)
LO'99 continues his rapid rise as 'one to watch' next year.. We've been big fans of up-and-coming producer LO'99 since back in August when we featured him on the site, up until last month when he dropped Medium Rare Recordings' first official release, Take Me Back with Marshall F. That deep, bassy house sound had an incredible resurgence in 2014, and LO'99 is one of the smoothest cats in the business, separating himself enough from the herd - especially on stuff like this killer re-work of Röyksopp's Sordid Affair:, which features Man Without Country's Ryan James: “When I found out I was going to be remixing [Sordid Affair], I wanted to make sure I could pay homage to the original and add my flavor without destroying the vibe. I made a few different versions that had much more ‘clubby’ drops, like some of my other remixes, but they seemed to not really suit the song so I pulled it all back.” Follow LO'99: FACEBOOK
